Almost there

Working on handing in our script today, we also hanged in our logbooks. The team continued working on our exhibition construction. Its starting to take shape as we pasted lots of advertisements on it. Nearly finished now fells great, and we hope the project works ok for every user :) Just some finishing touches on Monday and that  us, ready for the exhibition.

This is the end. My only friend, the end:)

Just giving an update of whats happened so far this week. We have placed all our video content into our AR app. We had trouble with the markers, trying to find unique individual markers that would not conflict, was a mission. We have created our booklet design for the exhibition. The team have created over 30 different videos covering our project research, from FLV’s,SWF’s and After Effects animations. We converted some SWF content to FLV’s so that they would work in our app.

We have a web page, so that users can download the app, markers and contact the team if they wish.

www.dontreadthis.eu

could not get a .ie domain, due to lenght of time it takes to process a .ie domain name.

We handed in the our project on DVD’s to our project supervisor today. Nearly finished the documentation should be ready for tomorrow.  Tomorrow we will continue working on the instillation, so that we can hopefully finish it off next monday:)

Augmented Reality/SWF Content

Testing different animations. In SWF format then converted to FLV for AR app.

Some stuff…

There are a few animations I made, possibly being used in our project…! =]

I just have to figure out how to upload them onto this blog, hopefully I will find out the problem by tomorrow!

For now, I’ll just leave some images…!

Augmented Reality/After Effects Content

Trying out different content for our project. Testing fonts, ink colour, stroked text, sound effects and animations. Also trying out different markers, as there seems to be an issue with some markers readability, the AR app is adding them when they are not on screen. Also my web cam died this morning, lucky it was 27 days after i purchased the web-cam :) I really hope the AR was not the reason for this.

New FLV’s and Markers test

Testing out new markers, which are more basic then previous markers. Also testing out our new content in FLV format. I found the markers are better at recognition and at movement when augmenting reality. Now iam focused on trying to get our AR app online. I have tried all the fixes suggested on the internet, i have now emailed the web sever hosts to allow certain MIME types. Iam waiting for their response.

AR Online Update

For the past few days, i have tried to get our AR application to work online. Having a lot of trouble, i think its the MIME type. The MIME type is the file extension, .flv for example. Iam not sure if the problem is my side or the sever’s side.  I have also changed some of the actionscript, and it did not work.

I also tested out using, an archos player as a monitor. This would enable us to, create a concept of how it would look on a device. It worked, but was very messy with cables and wires.

Usability test results

Here are some of the thing we learned during the usability test,

1: Light levels can be a problem for marker recognition.

2:Most users claimed they would have no problem downloading an AR app for a smarphone.

3:Markers placed on the cubes, got better feedback than markers on placed on separate sheets.

4:One user commented on the voice of our actor. He found it too cheerful and energetic.

5:Markers with black and white boarders work the best.

6:People think AR looks amazing.
